HCS-6 Second Semester Field Trips

Hello Families!
Here you will find our field trip opportunities for the upcoming semester. We don't have one for the month of February, and I do apologize for that. I planned for 2 different places, but neither of them worked out. However, we do have Play Days (see post below this one) and Mom's Night Out scheduled, so we still have a chance for fellowship.

Tour of Vulcan Museum
Vulcan Park and Museum is home to the world's largest cast iron statue and features spectacular views of Birmingham. They will tell the story of Birmingham's past, present and promise for the future. This is a docent led tour through the museum and into the statue (I think...I'm not exactly sure if it is IN or AROUND the actual statue, but it will be interesting).

Ages: All
Cost: $5 adults (this price is for anyone over the age of 12), $3 for children ages 5-12, and Free for children 4 and under. Sign up and payment deadline is February 20!

We do need a minimum of 10 in order to get the discounted price. Also, they did caution me that we will be up high while on the Vulcan Observation Balcony (only one part of the tour) and that this could be hard on those with a fear of heights, so please be aware that this is a factor.



Tour of Helen Keller's Birthplace
Come and tour the home and grounds of one of the most amazing women in our State's history. On the website, you can find a full biography and other educational tools to learn about this wonderful lady, prior to our trip, who overcame so much. Here is a direct link: Ivy Green

Ages: ALL
Cost: Adults $5 (18 and older), Students $1.50, Children 4 and under are Free Sign up and payment deadline for this field trip is April 1!

This field trip has been highly raved about by others who have been on it, so it should be excellent! Also, we will have a campout that weekend (see below), but it is not required that you do both.


Campout at Joe Wheeler Park
This is a campout that we are combining with a field trip since the Helen Keller museum is so far away. You do not have to participate in both things though. This state park offers boating, fishing, trails and more! The pictures on the website are beautiful and you can see those and any other information here: Joe Wheeler State Park
