Second Semester Events

It was so good to see some of you at the January Teacher Meeting! For those who were able to exempt...we missed you!! I hope everything is going great so far for you all in this second semester. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, we are only an email/phone call away. And now...drum roll please...presenting our second semester line up! Since these events are free (with the exception of a nominal fee for the trolley ride...see the first field trip below), we are so hoping that all of you will be able to join us! When: Friday, February 24, 2012 at 9:30am

What:  Part One: Touch of History Tour Students will learn the cultural, economic, and social aspects of Alabama Indians, lifestyles of 19th and 20th century Alabamians, and Alabama’s military history. Students will also gain an appreciation for artifacts and archival documents.  Students will be rotated through various sections of museum. Each section will include a touch cart or similar hands-on opportunities.

Part Two: Montgomery Trolley Ride & visit the park on the Alabama River.

Cost: Free (tour); $1 per person (Trolley Ride)

Where:  Begin at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, 624 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36130 (Meet outside the front of the building).  www.archives.alabama.gov

When: Friday, March 30, 2012 at 9:45am

What: Van-guided Tour of the Shelby County Landfill  Come learn interesting facts about our local landfill. The tour guide assured us that we would leave ther wondering and changing things about our lives.

Cost: Free

Where: Shelby County Landfill, Hwy 70 between Calera and Columbiana

When: Friday, April 20^th at 9:30am

What: Tour of Historic Brierfield Ironworks Park  A park ranger will guide us through all the history and fill us with the wonder that comes along with being a part of history. **Please dress correctly for this event. We will be walking!! Some areas will be rocky!!**

Cost: Free

Where: Brierfield Ironworks Park, 240 Furnace Parkway, Brierfield, AL 35035

When: Friday, May 11^th at 1:00pm

What: Park Day!!   Just a time to hang out and enjoy each other. Bring outdoor toys and be prepared to have fun!
